Creativity in Code

We provide short, timely lessons to spark ideas, introduce new skills, or highlight a theme. From there…

Kids pick their own projects because they see possibilities we don’t.

Kids work at their own pace because discovery takes unpredictable paths.

Kids share their work because there's nothing quite like the pride of creating something uniquely your own.

“The best way to learn is to do; the worst way to teach is to talk.”

Learning
from Scratch

All of our beginner workshops currently use the Scratch Platform — an approachable and fun way to learn the foundations of coding, with a little art, math, and logic mixed in!

Aimed at kids 7 and up, Scratch introduces 'coding blocks'—colorful, drag-and-drop commands that bring stories, animations, and games to life.

“Scratch promotes computational thinking and problem solving skills; creative teaching and learning; self-expression and collaboration.”

Digital art and animations are woven into our workshops, giving students a chance to add pixelated flair into their projects.

About Me

Hi, My name is Tal. 👋

I've been volunteering for a couple of years at Montclair Elementary School, teaching math and coding. I never envisioned my afternoons would be spent teaching digital projects to kids, but it continues to be more fun and engaging than most everything else I have called “work.”

Starting Oakland Coders Club is my way of listening to those feelings and expanding my efforts to the broader Oakland community. We're just getting started, but I'm excited to see where this goes, and I hope you are too!

You can learn more about me here or give me a call at (510) 905-7636 to chat.
